A spare bedroom is an altogether different proposition to dress than a main bedroom.
Spare bedrooms can be a challenge to decorate, especially if you want to buy new furniture as well. Since this is not your main bedroom it is tempting to do something a bit different with it. Should you opt for shabby chic furniture or go for French bedroom furniture instead? Alternatively perhaps something modern would be far better to try?
Whatever you opt for it has to be part of an overall strategy that leads to a coherent look and feel for the room. Remember this will be an occasional bedroom so you can try something different that you wouldn’t do in your main bedroom. However it should also be appealing for your guests when they come to stay. Would shabby chic furniture fit the bill in this case?
It can work better to start with a choice of colour scheme. You can then use this to influence everything else you do in the room. You may feel inspired to have French bedroom furniture, or to go for something totally modern instead. It’s your choice and your decision to make sure you have a spare bedroom that fits with your budget yet is also welcoming and appealing to anyone who stays.
The good news is that unless you have someone staying in the near future, you may find you can take your time to decorate and refurnish your spare bedroom. This means you won’t rush into anything and you will be more likely to end up with the perfect finished result.
